Teacher leaders talk leadership and pay on “Education Talk Radio”

On Thursday, August 25, three North Carolina teachers and members of the CTQ community were featured guests on “Education Talk Radio,” a live radio broadcast hosted by Larry Jacobs.

Featured teachers:

  • Karyn Dickerson, 2013-2014 North Carolina Teacher of the Year, NBCT and AP/IB Coordinator at Grimsley High School (Greensboro, NC)
  • Ben Owens, CTQ blogger, Virtual Community Organizer, former corporate engineer and now physics and math teacher at Tri-County Early College High School (Murphy, NC)
  • Joanna Schimizzi, NBCT and teacher at North Carolina Virtual Public Schools (Charlotte, NC)

These teachers discussed a two-month study they recently took part in that explored teacher career pathways and professional compensation recommendations that resulted in a newly-released paper.

The paper—Transforming teachers’ careers and compensation in North Carolina: A new vision from some of our state’s best teachersidentifies recommendations for teacher compensation and outlines a vision for advancing the teaching profession that all students deserve.
